One of the members of the European Parliament responsible for European anti-money laundering (AML) legislation, is Sven Giegold of the Greens/EFA. Those interested in what Europe is brooding on, like an Anti-Money Laundering Regulation, can go to a breakfast event on 19 February. According to the announcement on Giegold’s site during the event the following will be discussed:

The new European Commission, European Parliament and Council have put combating money laundering high on their agendas. While the Commission reports released in July give some indicative hints, it remains to be seen which reforms the Commission will finally propose. Therefore we would like to present and discuss the respective proposals of:

• Sebastian Fiedler, Chair of the Federation of German Police Officers (BDK),
• Wim Mijs, Chief Executive Officer, European Banking Federation (EBF)
• Sven Giegold, Economic and Financial Spokesperson of Greens/EFA

Giegold gelooft nog in Magnitsky, zo lees ik in een artikel van Lucy Komisar van 22 januari 2019, Letter to European Parliament Green Sven Giegold on a resolution to protect a tax cheat. Komisar schrijft dat zij net als Giegold een van de oprichters is van de Tax Justice Network en dat zij hem informatie heeft gestuurd over de Browder, de man achter het Magnitsky sprookje.
