In the article How digital financial services can prey upon the poor [*], the author explains that data of poor people can be used to exploit as well as help them.

The most obvious way digital financial services harm poor people is by laying them more open to fraud.

This also applies or will apply in future to ordinary citizens of the western world. I expect it will be costly to protect yourself.
