One of the elements of the proposal (press release):
transferring direct supervisory competences over significant market infrastructures such as certain trading venues, Central Counterparties (CCPs), CSDs, and all Crypto-Asset Service Providers (CASPs) to the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) and enhancing ESMA’s coordination role for the asset management sector
The package is supposed to support the Commission’s simplification and competitiveness agenda and creates “more legal certainty for digital innovation” (questions and answers).
