Today is the last day that citizens can comment on European plans in regard of the Business Registers Interconnection System (BRIS), more information on the consultation page and in the document it refers to, the ‘Inception impact assessment’.
I gave my comments:
BRIS is a good initiative. Like many initiatives by the EU (e.g. eIDAS, digital establishment of companies), you are too optimistic about the time countries need to implement new legislation.
My advice:
#1 Keep it simple but develop in such a way it can be extended easily.
#2 Improve current BRIS by including more types of legal entities, especially those types that are used internationally.
#3 Choose a limited set of information that is relevant for all users and available to everyone, I think of: name, type of entity, date of establishment, trade names, names of managing directors.
#4 Improve the user interface.
#5 Provide assistance to states that do not have developed IT-systems.
The current version of BRIS can be found here.
