LEI is the abbreviation of ‘Legal Entity Identifier’, the identifier of legal entities like the ‘besloten vennootschap’ in the Netherlands. The Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF) is the organisation behind LEI.
GLEIF has a Legal Entity Identifier Regulatory Oversight Committee (LEI ROC) that on 29 December 2020 published its final ‘Guidance on LEI Eligibility for General Government Entities’, which is supposed to provide clarifications on the implementation of LEIs for general government entities. The committee recommends that the guidance is implemented by 31 March 2022.
